Caring Across the Miles
Caring for an aging family member who does not live nearby naturally presents problems. It can be overwhelming and frustratingand leave you heavy with guilt. Whether your relative needs a little help or a lot, you can feel torn between your life and the responsibility for your family
member's needs.
Geriatric Care Managers can help:
They bridge the distance, provide you with professional assistance and make sure your family
member's needs are met. Linked across the United States, these Care Managers provide
"local" care. They can also help you decide whether moving is a good option for you or your family memberand how to best accomplish that.
Memory Loss
Caring for someone with a progressive illness that causes memory loss is often scary, frustrating and challenging. Eldercare Services specializes in
family counseling, companions and long-term care for individuals and
families facing these issues.
All memory loss is not Alzheimer's disease. For any individual experiencing short-term memory loss, the first thing to do is to get a comprehensive medical evaluation to rule out reversible causes. The three most common are depression, infection and nutritional deficiency (including dehydration).
More than 5% of adults over 65, and nearly 50% of those over 85, have
Alzheimer's disease. It affects not only short-term memory, but all areas of brain functioning. Brain tissue deteriorates as the disease advances.
A Care Manager will be the family guide as the individual moves through the stages of dementia, helping the family with behavioral and communication techniques, as well as providing options of care and resources for accessing care.
Eldercare Services combines professional care management and caregiving to deliver superior services to older adults, their families and the professionals involved in their care. With offices in Walnut Creek and San Francisco, Eldercare Services covers the following Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Solano.
